PATRICIA ELLWEIN TANAKA, 33 Storrs Heights Rd., Storrs, CT Patty graduated from SDSU in June, 1959 with majors in home economics and journalism. She married John Tanaka on August 14, 1959. That fall, began work on an M.S. in language skills, which was finished in 1966. They moved to the University of Connecticut in 1965. She worked for their local newspaper for 7 years, and also taught speech at UConn and Manchester Community College. After their sabbatical year (1975) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, she worked for a year as promotion director for the Norwichtown Mall. She is now in her seventh year as Assistant Transfer Credit evaluator working in the Transfer Admissions Office at UConn. Son Peter, 26, served three years as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and is now a student at UConn. Son Paul, 24, graduated from Iowa State University in chemical engineering, and is now an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Schofield, based in San Diego, CA. John is currently serving as President of the Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society, an international group. Last summer, they went to Japan on Society business, and this summer they will miss the reunion because they are going to a meeting in Germany. John involves Patty in all this too, so she is currently volunteer editor of the Industry News section of the new IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine. She also keeps busy with church work (presently chairman of the Church Council), and the League of Women Voters.
BARBARA ENGER BRIGGS, DECEASED Barbara was married to Dennis Briggs; they had 5 children; Rick, Randy, Carrie,
Kelly and Holly. Barb was living in Spokane, Washington at the time of her death in
1973.

COLLEEN ENGLAND SHERER, 624 Crestview Drive, Sapid City, SD Colleen attended Northern for two years and then taught in Redfield for two years. She went to California for one year and then decided it was important to return to Northern and get her degree. She received that in 1961 and went to Alaska for a semester to teach. In 1962 she married Mick Sherer. Colleen has been substituting in the school system since 1981. She has had quite a few long term jobs and really enjoys it. They have lived in St. Louis and Chicago. Mick will be retiring from the F.B.I, in a couple of years and they are looking forward to that. They have two children. Karia is 23 years old and married. She lives in Olympia, Washington. Patrick is 15 years old and into baseball and baseball cards with his dad. They also have a super son-in-law, Dave Ingram, and a super special grandson, Joshua - 19 months old. Colleen's hobbies are in the line of crafts, sewing, folk painting and cross stitch. Colleen writes, "Someone told me I had wrinkles on my face but I know it's not true because of the cost of the wrinkle cream I buy. I've also been told I have gome grey but I know my hairdresser wouldn't agree. Of course, if it's happening to you, you must be a lot older than I. Have you also noticed how the scale lies?"
BARBARA EUSTICE HEBELER, Tacoma, WA Barb is married to Dewey Hebeler. She has two children: Blllie, 29; and Mark, 24.
She also has three grandchildren.
JANICE FRANDSEN TATE, 661 Harbor Cove NW, Gainsville, GA In 1958, Janice graduated from the Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She worked there and in SD, Colorado and Hawaii where she met her husband, Tom, then a Naval Aviator. They got married in Iwakuni, Japan in 1961. They returned to Barber's Point, Hawaii where their daughter, Tracy Kristen, was born in 1962. Their next duty station was Pensacola, FL. Their son, Tommy, was born in 1963. Tom got out of the Navy and they moved to Deoafcur, GA. Jan worked at the V.A. Hospital in Atlanta while Tom went back to school. He became a commercial pilot, flying for Eastern Airlines. Their son, Mathew Christian-Cato, was born in 1969. They then moved to Tom's hometown, Gainesville, GA, where they built their home in 1974. Tracy graduated from North Georgia College with a degree in Psychology. She married Lt. Andrew W. Reese in December and they will be stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Tommy has been stationed aboard the USS Lexington in Pensacola as an Operations Specialist. Matt will be a Junior. Besides being a wife and mother, Jan has enjoyed her career in nursing over the years ... Intensive Care, Recovery Room, Labor and Delivery, Medical-Surgical, Private Practice, and is currently working in a Renal Dialysis Unit. She sings in the Methodist Church Chancel Choir, enjoys attending her adult Sunday School Class and doing needlework projects for her Mission Group and family gifts. She really likes to travel ... her suitcase is handy, just waiting to be packed to go on a trip to visit friends and relatives and to go sight-seeing!
KENNETH FURNESS, 2891 Ridgemore Road NW, Atlanta, GA After graduation from WHS Kenn attended Goodman Memorial Theatre/Art Institute of Chicago, majoring in Scene and Costum Design. Then Hollywood beckoned. However after assessing the situation in the land of motion pictures he decided to become Banker to the "Stars". While undertaking that role he became involved in selling real estate and insurance as sidelines. After 25 years he needed a slower pace and moved to the South. He invested in 2 retail businesses - a Christmas Shop and Nightclub - and found himself back in the fast lane. He divested himself from those and moved to Tara land - Atlanta. He is now in the hospitality business with the Marriott Hotels.
PETER A.B. GIBSON, 336 Needles Ct., Longwood, FL Pete graduated with a B.S. Degree from Northern State College. He spent 2 years in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, TX. Mary and Pete have lived coast to coast and border to border during his 25 years with Hormel and Co. Seattle was one of their favorites. They now live in Orlando, FL, where Pete is General Manager for Sales & Distribution Plants throughout Florida. They have 2 grown sons in Orlando. One is an engineering draftsman with the Power Co. and the other is an account executive with CBS affiliate WCPX-TV Orlando.
LOREN GISSELBECK, 162 E. Main Street, Westminister, MD Loren graduated from Marion College, Marion, IN (B.A. degree). Graduated from Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL (M. Div. degree). He became a minister in the United Methodist Church. Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Castle, IN. Moved to Frederick, MD where he became Pastor Calvary United Methodist Church. Moved to Burtonsville, MD. Pastor of Liberty Grove United Methodist Church and Loren is now Senior Minister of Westminister United Methodist Church. Loren married Helen Hersey from Mitchell, SD and they had three children: Brian, Natalie, and Deena. He has been active in community activities especially the Mental Health Association as he served as County Chapter President of Henry Co. Chapter in IN and Frederick Co. Chapter in MD and then State President of the Maryland Division. He was also the Chairman of the Task Force on the Drunk Driver for Carroll County, MD. Helen and Loren love to travel and have been to all 48 continental United States and 18 foreign countries.
DR. JAMES GRANT, 6915 Dakota Trail, Edina, MN Jim is a Radiologist at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. Vernida teaches English as a Second Language at Edina High School. They have two children, Jim, 23, is living in Minneapolis. Patricia, 20, is a Junior at Dartmouth College.
MEL HAALAND, 950 San Lorenzo, Solana Beach, CA Mel attended Northwestern University and has a degree in Business Education. He has been in Southern California for 26 year's. He is in Mkt'ing of Financial Services and Systems. Mel is active in various church, community and music activities. He writes that he has gained lota of weight and lost lots of hair. Does anyone want to believe him??? Mel's wife Alice is a travel agent. They have two sons. Eric is 23 years old and attending UCLA and Kirk is 18 years old and attending UC-Irvine.
RITA HALLING CHASE, 17 E Chevy Chase Dr, Wheeling, IL Since graduating from Watertown Public High, Rita received her undergraduate degree from College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN. For the next several years she taught in grade school and junior high. Rita then returned to college as a graduate assistant and received a Masters in English from the University of Wisconsin. Since, she has seen teaching high school English in Glenview, IL, at Glenbrook South High School. She is proud to be a member of this faculty as the U.S. Government awarded them the title of excellence in education, they have been featured on local Chicago news and were written about in the U .S. News_ and World Report,. Rita has been married for 11 years and has three stepchildren: Sheri, a junior in college; Wendy, a freshman in iollege; and Debbie, a sophomore in high school. Her husband, Bill, is a businessman. They are both constant travelers and will be sailing the Rhine this summer.
JOANN HANSON ROTI, 613 North Broadway, Watertown, SD In 1955, JoAnn attended the School of Nursing in Mitohell. Then in 1956, her soda fountain romance with pharmacist (at Haggar's Drug) DeWayne Roti, led to marriage. They lived in Watertown and were part owners of Haggar's. In 1965 they moved to Appleton, MN and bought a drug store there. In 1969 they moved to Minneapolis and in 1971 to Brainerd and then in 1972 DeWayne died in a car accident. JoAnn moved back to Waterfcown to raise her family and went back to nurses training and worked in the dialysis unit for five years. In 1978, she joined Lutheran Brotherhood Ins. Co. and sells insurance products. She got her securities license to sell Mutual funds. Each year she enrolls in continuing education courses in the industry and presently is enrolled in a Certified Financial Planner Course (a big plus is earning an expense paid trip each year for she and her family). She has her family raised and feels that has been her biggest challenge. "Hopefully the ski trips - water sports- interesting vacations and anything else I could do to make their lives interesting (most recent was white water rafting) - fulfilled and somewhat exciting will be reciprocated for my 'mature years'!" Her daughter, DeAnne Kanne is 26 and married to Dan Kanne. DeAnne is a housewife and does singing telegrams and works as a hostess at a University Club. Dan is a computer programmer. Gretchen Roti is 24 and graduated from Augustana College in 1984. With the help of a scholoarship she got a Masters degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University. She now works for Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm as a Management Consultant. Her son, Jayson, is 19 and a sophomore at Moorhead State College. His claim to fame is barefoot skiing on his size 14 feet.
RICHARD LARRY HEADLEY, 12622 Cherokee Lane. Leawood, KS Larry Is currently National Dealer Accounts Manager for the service contract division of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America of Fountain Valley, CA. He travels from Boston to San Diego and Miami to Seattle visiting Mitsubishi- dealerships. Larry and his wife. Sally, just moved into their new home last August. With 4 children, each getting bigger every day, they needed more room. Since they all enjoy playing golf, they chose a home overlooking the 17th green of Leawood Country Club. Their children' are: Rick, 17, a senior in high school; Tracy, 15, a sophomore in high school; John, 13, a 7th grader and Robert, 8, a third grader. JAMES T. HELLE, 2309 HE 127th Street, Seattle, WA James joined the Marine Corps for 4 years after graduating in 1955. He met his wife, Carole and they were married in October, 1956, in Los Angeles, CA. After the service he went to Seattle and completed Data Processing School. He currently completed 23 years with Seattle First National Bank as Assistant Vice-President in Computer Operations. He and his wife have two children: Gregory, 25, is married to Arlana; and Pamela, 23, is married to Craig and they have one son, Nicholas (10 months).

HAZEL HJELLMING STAHL, 6001 Split Rock Road, Sioux Falls, SD Hazel has lived in Sioux Falls for the past 28 years and she is employed at Austad's as a Bank Deposit rep and also Data entry clerk. Her husband, Leonard, is self-employed - Insulation Company. They have three children ranging in age from 27 to 30. Deb is married and lives in Brookings. Greg is single and lives in Sioux Falls. Jeff is married and lives in Sioux Falls. They have two granddaughters -Anna is 2 years old and Sara is one year old.
