Class Fund Raiser Kicks Off ! |
As part of our upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, a group of classmates have initiated a fund raising campaign; with the goal of making a gift to the Arrow Education Foundation during our reunion festivities next year.
Janice (Frandsen) Tate kicked off the project by ordering a "memorial brick" from the Arrow Education Foundation in our name; "The Class of 1955". The engraved brick will then be placed in the "Arrow Wall" at the school's "Foundation Plaza". We believe this was a great idea and provides us, as a class, the opportunity of supporting and thanking our public schools as former students. |
Class Anniversary Funds Drive
• A 1000 seat auditorium and an arena, • An Olympic size pool and all-weather track. • The WHS library that's networked to every library and resource center in the state. • Every student (grades 9 thru 12) has a laptop computer provided by the district. • The entire facility supports wireless computer technology. • College prep classes start in grade 9 rather than in grade 12. • Advanced Placement classes ( for college credit) are offered in English, Biology, European History, German, Spanish and Calculus. • The 2004 WHS class included 323 graduates. The district staff has more than 500 administrators, teachers and various support people. Notes * Watertown's previous superintendent is now South Dakota's Secretary of Education. * The district also includes two alternative high schools. Thousands of WHS graduates, spread around the world, represent the best of the Watertown Schools. These grads, along with other enlightened Watertown citizens, have created the Arrow Education Foundation which is committed to preserving and enhancing quality education by increasing private support for Watertown Public schools. Each year the Foundation gives thousands of dollars to teachers and students to support activities not funded by tax dollars. Foundation awards foster creative approaches to learning. For example, grants have been given for special books and learning devices, technology, theatre field trips, speakers and special programs. In addition, scholarships are awarded to deserving WHS graduates. These Foundation grants directly benefit students and teachers in the Watertown School District. The Foundation Plaza, initiated by the Arrow Education Foundation, is located near the west entrance of the high school. The Plaza includes the Arrow Wall which is a brick monument that symbolizes this Arrow pride and purpose. (See photos below) The class of 1955 will be commemorated on the Arrow Wall with inscribed bricks. Would you like to thank the Watertown School District for your quality education and insure that all future students are as privileged? Your donation to mark the 50th anniversary of our graduation would support excellence in the Watertown Public Schools. In 2005, at our 50th reunion, our class's total contribution will be recognized. Donations may be sent to: Jan Frandsen Tate 296 Arizona Ave. Watertown, SD, 57201. For winter address & e-mail...click here.. Make your check out to the Arrow Education Foundation and identify your contribution as coming from a member of the Class of 1955. |
