Kerm;

A bit of additional background to give the pictures some context.

We both wanted to shoot a trophy Kudu and Gemsbok which we did. Namibia is one the best places in Africa to shoot them. I included an additional photo of dad and I with his kudu, and photos of my Kudu (dad was not in the pic since he was taking it), photos of my Gemsbok with dad and me in it, and photos of a warthog and red hartebeast which I shot for meat for the natives & rancher's staff.

There is also a photo of our sand grouse hunt. We shot 19. They are roughly the size of a bobwhite quail.

As for the quality of the trophies, None were records. Let me sort it out for you. There are two standards to measure trophies. The Safari Club International (SCI) is the predominant system used with the other being Rowland Ward.

They measure horn length and circumference of the bases and score them.

SCI and the Namibian Professional Hunting Association award medals, (Gold, Silver and Bronze) depending on the SCI scores for each game. Both our Kudu's were gold medal recipients and my Gembok received a gold medal and dad's Gemsbok received a silver medal (missing gold by just a fraction of an inch or so).

In terms of horn length, the holy grail in Kudu hunting is 60" horns. Dad's was 57 1/2" and mine was 57 1/4. Anything over 50 is good, over 55 is outstanding and over 60 is extraordinarily unusual.

For Gemsbok, the holy grail is 40" for a bull which we both shot. Dad's was between
38-39" (don't recall exactly), and mine was 40 1/4".

Neither the warthog nor red hartebeast were trophies, since they were shot for meat.

We had an outstanding time. And it was indeed a trip of a lifetime...We're both having both of our trophies mounted. We expect them any day now. I agree with you. Far and away the best memories of my life are of hunting and fishing with dad.

Hope this information helps. If you need more let me know...

Brad
