Hubert Humphrey... born 27 May 1911 in Wallace, SD and raised in Doland where his father was mayor, a state legislator, and pharmacist...Hubert said he had an "All American" up bringing including a Model-T and a dog named Rex...He moves on to become the first Vice President of the United States from SD.
George McGovern... born at Avon, S.Dak., July 19, 1922, and performed distinguished service in WW2 where he flew 35 missions as pilot of the "Dakota Queen" only to later become a anti-war activist. After the War and before entering politics he teaches history at Dakota Wesleyan University (1949-53)

Myron Floren... born in Roslyn, SD, Floren was so talented playing the accordion that he made his professional debut at the age of 8 -- playing a 3-day gig at the County Fair for the sum of ten dollars! Went on to become a favorite performer with Lawrence Welk's television audiences.
Ernest Lawrence... born on 8th of August 1901, at Canton, SD and graduated from the Univ. of So.Dak. with a B.A. in Chemistry in 1922, earned a Ph.D from Yale in 1925 and became the youngest full professor of Physics at UC Calif. (Berkeley) in 1930. During this period he also invented one of the century's most important particle research tools...the cyclotron...and goes on to play a critical role in the development of the Atomic Bomb...
