Class Biographies & Updates...

It's human nature to wonder "what ever happen to so & so" and to be curious about the lives of classmates we've lost touch with over the years.

So we encourage you to send us updates regarding your life and recent events.
We enjoy hearing about ones family, retirement, job history, travels, etc.

A collection of recent classmate updates in surname order follow:

Austin, Donna Cherrier ...Donna’s first line back to us is that she thinks we are old "farts”. She is living in Anchorage……said her Dad is still living, age 92 and was in Alaska at Thanksgiving this year (2002) and did some flying with Donna’s son. Donna retired in 1995 and started her own business. Soft Adventures……walking tours and some other more aggressive activities….(I understand they go anyplace in the world and do take on more than just walking around the block) Donna will spend Christmas in Hawaii this year since there is snow in Alaska….(duh… good idea). Donna has a second home in Washington with cherry, apricot, pear and apple trees. (we’ll keep that in mind for our 50th….maybe she can do pies….) If you are looking for adventure, call Donna.

Barrett, Georgia Timmerman ...After high school I worked for an insurance company for approximately 5 years. In 1961 I got married and for the next 40 years my husband (Herb) and I owned and operated a woodworking business, Timmerman Woodworking. I did the bookkeeping and worked in sales. We have been retired for about 9 years. Health problems forced me to retire. I have had Parkinson's for the last 10 years. There are lots of good medicines but no cure. I did have surgery in 1966 and that helped some. We have 3 children, Mark (42), Penny (40), and Karen (36) has given us our 1 grandchild, Brynee.

We did not do much traveling until the kids went to college. Penny is in music and we are able to attend her concerts. Mark attended Harvard and it was great to travel to the east to visit him. He gave us lots of opportunity to visit and tour the eastern states. He lived there for two years...I enjoy playing cards.

Finally, I want to say how proud we and all of our class are of Terry and Helene Redlin's accomplishments...

Bauer, Jeanne Hernandez ...(14 Mar 05)...Jan Tate located and spoke with Jeanne today and says:
"she is so thrilled to find out that our class is going to have such a wonderful celebration"...
Jeanne address & contact information is now updated in our directory and we look forward to receiving her update.

Baxter, Barbara Hughes ...(12-9-2003) Confirmed address, she has no e-mail….Will wait for a bio….

Benthin, Phyllis Muckey

Bergan, Carol Henkel ...(4-18-2004) Received this update from Carol...I attended Fairview Hospital School of Nursing 1955-1958. I did private duty nursing for many hospitals. Red Cross (Bloodmobile) from 1992 – 2001. I lived in Minneapolis, married Lee Henkel on 9-19-1958. Lee worked for Gabberts Furniture in sales and interior decorating. Three children: Scott, Sally, and Sarah. Four grandchildren. Hobbies: Reading and like to dance. Other things fun and interesting?? Not much to mention.

Berner, Joyce Ingalls After graduation from high school I wasted 2 years in Washington, D.C.. I worked for a loan company. I enjoyed the sights, not the work. In 1957 I moved from the D.C. fast lane life to Mpls. More of the fast lane but now I lived close to home and friends. I was employed with an insurance company in the Northwestern Bank Building (which is now demolished), 7th floor, in the loop, taking the bus each day. Didn’t own a car for a while. I did purchase a green 4 door Studebaker. Wow, my first car and payments. I transferred to Sioux Falls in 1959. So nice to be back in South Dakota. I met Jim Ingalls in Watertown (Can’t remember if it was at church or at Sunnyside), could have been the latter. Married in 1960 and moved 30 miles south of Watertown to a farm near Bryant. Received 4 years of “Ag Education” obtained a PhD. raising crops, care of livestock, operating all sorts of farm equipment and truck driving.

In 1964 we started our family, one son, Justin, employed in Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Fall. He lives in Tea and has two children. 1966 Darcy, now Foran, lives in Sacramento, CA. She has 2 children. 2+2 = 4 (good). One grandson and 3 grand daughters. As grandparents, our grand ones are, of course, the most intelligent and the best in the world.

No world travel for us….although we have found and enjoyed many areas of the US to visit.

In 1992 all of our tillable farmland was rented out so we could expand our second business. Need to stay in shape. We operate a commercial hatchery, have a Hunting Preserve with lodge and food and raise a few thousand of the state bird (pheasants). No retirement around this place.

My interests and hobbies are collecting antiques. Favorites are furniture and dishes. I have a coin collection along with cookbooks, old and new, and enjoy flower and vegetable gardening plus cooking and baking. No, I am not Martha Stewart.

I feel as if I have just written my obituary and am now looking forward to the BIG ONE in 2005. Have enjoyed the Project “55” e-mail and the Project “55” Photo album…..Looking forward to 2005……………”SD” Joyce

Best, Gerald

Bierscheid, Janice

Bevers, Evelyn Jones ...Evelyn may hold the record for the combined number of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren….will wait for more class members before we give the final record holder. Evelyn married Cliff, in CA and they put two families together. Four boys and one girl and then added another boy of their own to the new family. One son passed away 2 ½ years ago as a result of cancer. They now have 17 grandchildren (and one on the way) and 14 great grandchildren….Nice going…..

Evelyn and Cliff both retired in 1988. Cliff from the electrical union and Evelyn had been with the school district for 21 years. They moved to St. George (actually Santa Clara) in 1988. Cliff stayed busy doing odd jobs and fix-its for neighbors, friends and the Elk’s Lodge. …retired a second time after 11 years. Now their time is taken up traveling in an RV. They make it back to Watertown and Lake Kampeska every other year for the Bevers family reunion. It is held in July. In the odd years, they travel to PA to visit a daughter and her family. They did an Alaska trip two years ago. Drove (assume the Alcan Highway) up and back. They have enjoyed a few cruises and have current plans for a 15 day cruise through the Panama Canal the first two weeks in March 2003. The St. George area of Utah is known as the “Dixie” of Utah. It is beautiful with all the National Parks in the area. It is best to be away from July 15 to August 15 when the parks are in their peak attendance and temperature.

Blizzard, Robert Kermit.... Surprise !!! I finally generated a Bio.
Probably would make good input for an “obit”. You can now replace that “old” Bio on the website.

After High School, on to college, three years as a CO-OP Engineering Student with Honeywell – Mpls, SDSU BSEE in 1960, then full-time at Honeywell after graduation. Did graduate work in Business Administration at University of Minnesota, 14 hours short of masters degree when transferred by Honeywell to Clearwater, FL in 1971. My last 30 years at Honeywell worked in Technical / Program Management of Navigation Systems for Military Aircraft, Spacecraft Launch Vehicles, and Submarines. Retired from Honeywell in 2001 with 44+ years of service. Continued working as a Navigation Systems Consultant full-time (meant to be part-time – oh well) with two firms, CAST Navigation of Billerica, MA and Dayton Aerospace, Inc of Dayton, OH primarily on the DoD F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). In High School, I worked and flew for Hubbard Aviation so my working with aircraft goes back a long way.

Along the way, I got married in 1960 to a delightful woman, Sara. Sara is originally from Sioux Falls. Sara has a BS in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota (included two years at SDSU). We have been married for 45 years and raised two very successful children. Our daughter Gen and her husband Vance live in Birmingham, AL and have 3 teenagers, Chris, Kendall, and Tyler – they are the delight of we grandparents. Gen is Director of Development for Campfire Girls of Alabama. Gen has Dual College Degrees, one in Public Relations and the other in Elementary Education, from Troy University - Alabama. Our son Paul and his wife Robin live in Olathe, KS – he is VP of Operations for AIG and manages their Western US Claims/Payments Processing Operation. Paul has his BA and MBA from Mercer University in Macon, GA.

For outside activities, I enjoy traveling, flying, and volunteering at a local high school (work parties, run the Varsity Football Chain Gang, etc.). Most recent travel adventure was a land and cruise tour of Alaska – I totally recommend that to everyone. Upcoming is a Blizzard Reunion (my brothers and sisters) in Mexico City in October and two weeks in Hawaii in February 2006. Along the way working Trade Shows in Long Beach (just before our 55th reunion), San Diego (2 shows), and Las Vegas – read “paid for” parties.

Kermit et al, you have done a super job on preparing our 50th class reunion celebration. See you all soon.

Regards,
Bob Blizzard

Boettcher, Richard ...Dick and his family live about 19 miles south of Waubay, SD. I quit working this fall and have about a ½ section of land to play with. I have a gravel pit and do some gravel hauling to keep occupied. I went into the Army after graduation in 1955 and served until 1958. Got married in 1959, divorced in 1976. We had two sons Clifford and Martin. I worked for Hill Packing from 1959 to 1964 until they closed. I operated heavy equipment from 1964 to 1967 for Codington County and construction. I worked for Northwestern Steel and Iron Works from 1968 to 1992. Finished my working days with various contractors and J & D Enterprises driving truck from 1992 to 2002.

I remarried in 1986 to Patricia Simonton and gained 8 children (Kenneth, Samual, Timothy, Jody, Wade, Wesley, Rebecca and Andrew). I have three grandchildren on my side of family (Christopher, Danniele and Joseph). We have 13 grandchildren on my wife’s side….(Kendra, Amy, Tosha, Shana, Eric, Jesse,, Jennifer, Jade, Brandee, Austin, Chelsey, Zackery, and Cristen).

I have not done much more than work….

Born, Kermit and Cynthia ...We are still living in Aberdeen. We are both retired, Cynthia from a lifetime of nursing in the Home Health Program in Aberdeen. She worked for the Brown County Health and State Health Department and finished her career with the Avera St. Luke’s Hospital home health program. I had two careers…one with the South Dakota Department of Labor…. finished after 21 years….and then a second that lasted 16 years with the Education Assistance Corporation…..helping colleges, universities, banks and credit unions with the student loan program.

I used to play a ton of tennis...but hips and knees finally went bonkers…finally had a hip replaced and changed sports to golf…

We have a lake home on Enemy Swim Lake that is keeping us out of trouble in the summer months.. We had an old cabin that we gutted and remodeled…..then were flooded out (twice) and vowed not to have it happen again…Tore it down and hauled in 90+ loads of fill to get out of the flood plain…then Tage and Tony (daughter and son-in law) went into Northern MN and found a log cabin contractor who designed a log home for all of us. It’s like Lincoln logs…i.e...the logs were numbered with plans to follow…we built it ourselves…a great project and lots of fun… Brothers Ted and Bernie helped…our kids came…Tage and Tony and their family, Craig and daughter and Jack and his family …all pitched in…and after a year of weekends, finally finished. Started on May 1st of one year and finally finished in July of the next year…but lived in it while under construction. so, now …swimming, boating, fishing, golfing and other usual outdoor activities keep us occupied. It is a year round home, we keep it heated in the winter and have lots of weekends in the snow and ice.

We have three kids and eight grandchildren. Tage is an OBGYN doc and lives here in Aberdeen (three kids). Jack is with the Northwest Airlines Federal Credit Union in Mpls (2 kids) and Craig is in the Flint MI area…works for EDS (Electronic Data Systems)…(3 kids).

Employment in the student loan business provided the opportunity to travel throughout the continental US, but there is still too much to see. We hope to be able to do more traveling in the next few years. We have a time-share condo on Hilton Head Island, SC. Each February we have the opportunity to spend time along the SE coastal region. It is an area steeped in early American history. We never seem to run out of things to see and places to investigate.

For you old Arrow players, we live around and run into lots of football, basketball, baseball and tracksters who played and ran for the Aberdeen Golden Eagles in the 1953-55 years…and they remember a lot of guys that played for the Arrows…and we still have a bit of a rivalry, even in our slowing down years. They often ask about you.

Boyer Jim ...Jim is very well traveled. SDSU for two quarters. His Dad got tired of him chasing girls and encouraged him to leave school….on to Seattle where he roomed with Gary Harris (WHS Graduate) and Don Lortz while he worked for Boeing. Motorcycle accident bunged him up…back to Watertown to live with his parents while he got back on is feet. On to Kansas City …Back to Watertown where he and his brother operated the Watertown Flying Service. Married and back to school and graduated. In 1970 moved to California and worked for Hewlett Packard. Ran a Baskin-Robbins for a few years and then went back to HP. Jim has traveled to China, Korea and India and has plans for an “early” retirement in the summer of 2004. Has three daughters, one in marketing, one a paralegal, and one a crew chief on a C-130

Bryson, Dean The class owes you a big "Thank You" for the countless hours you have devoted to this project.

Since graduation, being unable to hold a job and attempting to stay out of sight from creditors, we have moved around. After graduating from Northern in 1960 and 1962 we moved to Idaho. The "we" being my wife Jan, daughter, Lori, and me. While in Idaho our son Brad was born. After one year in Idaho we moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to get another degree. After 2 years there we returned to Northern and was there, as a professor of psychology, for 7 years. We then moved Holland, Michigan to teach at Hope College. Then the lure of South Dakota took over and after 5 years in Michigan we moved to Rapid City to teach at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. After 26 years there as a professor and college dean I realized I was probably never going to get it right so I retired in the summer of 2002.

My wife (Jan of 44 years) spent 27 years as an elementary teacher as well as following me around and keeping me on the straight and fun-filled narrow. Our two children each have 2 daughters so we spend time traveling between in Aurora, Ill .and Austin, Tx.

Because there is some truth in the old adage that "they can't hit a moving target," we have traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Thailand, Russia, and 15 other countries. Now that the work won't interfere with what is important we plan to see many more.

Last winter the phone rang in our winter home in Texas. It was Jerry King, who also lives in Georgetown. While we weren't able to get together and lie to each other we will definitely do so in the coming winters.

In July, 03, our son and I are leaving for Africa to do a hunting safari, a long awaited dream fulfilled.

Kerm, again thanks for all the time and effort. It is great reading your e-mails. Give Cynthia a hug for us...
Sincerely Yours……Dean Bryson

Bucholz, Edward (DECEASED) ... “Smiley” is still living in the Watertown area. I retired from a lifetime of farming in 2000. I had spent my entire “ag” career on the family farm. The farm has been in the family for over 100 years. It is rented out at the present time. I have had some health problems with diabetes and due to complications, have lost most of my vision. I continue to live on the family farm with my wife, Coletta. We are the parents of nine children, five girls and four boys. Six of the children are married and we now have twelve grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Budde, Dianna

Bultman, Anita D’Andrea ...I was one of the first to answer the original request. I didn't know we were giving dissertations or I would have complied. I will do my best now to remember 50 years back.

I think before and after pictures are in order. I entered Northwestern School of Nursing after graduation. Jan Frandsen Tate was my roommate. It was a fun hard three years. After graduation I worked at the University of Minnesota Hospital. I married my husband Dennis D'Andrea in 1959. He was in graduate school so I continued to work at the U.  After he graduated with a degree in Geophysics and had a job with the US Bureau of Mines we moved to Bloomington MN. where we still live. Different house but same town.

We had five children – the 60‘s are a blur, running after all those kids.! I worked always to keep my sanity but did go back to Abbott Northwestern Hospital Emergency room where I worked for about 15 years before transferring to the retirement grounds of Day Surgery. No holidays or weekends or shifts. When the last child graduated from college I quit work and haven't looked back.

We have six grandchildren who we enjoy. Our two girls live near by but the boys left for greener pastures. One in Connecticut and one in New York City (our youngest-single and where we love to visit in the summer). One son lives in Phoenix where we love to visit in the winter. We like to travel, watch our grandchildren play soccer and gymnastics and whatever. My husband loves to golf and golf and golf. He thinks it's only 4 weeks away- (written on March 3, 2003) how soon you forget the Minnesota winter!

Butz, Wanda Griepp ...(March 6, 2003) Received a note confirming her address and e-mail. Waiting for more on her life…
